Supporting young musicians in Southampton

SU Music present
Showcase ’25
The first concert in this season of concerts at St Michael’s, sees the postgraduate music students from Southampton University demonstrating their creativity and talent in a series of signature pieces. Coposers featured include: Schubert, Liszt, Puccini, Schumann, Chopin, Dvorak, Ireland, Grieg, and Debussy. An evening not to miss!

Simon Harper & Eleanor Perks
Winter into Spring: a song recital
Simon Harper (tenor) and Eleanor Perks (piano) present “Winter into Spring: a song recital” at St Michael’s. The programme will include Finzi’s song cycle Let us garlands bring, Copland’s Four Early Songs, and songs by Faure and Schubert.
A former chorister of St Michael’s, Simon now sings as a Lay Clerk in Hereford Cathedral Choir, and is Musical Director of Hereford Chamber Choir, Ledbury Choral Society, Kington Choral Society, and Cotswolds-based Cantores Chamber Choir.

Voice and brass …
Unexpected harmonies
A unique and atmospheric programme for soprano, trombone, and piano, featuring Imogen Baker (soprano) and James Druce (trombone). There’s music by Handel, Previn, Shostakovich, Strauss, and others — with a mix of solo and collaborative pieces that explore the lyrical, expressive, and even playful sides of this unusual ensemble

Naissance
The saxophone and piano duo, Naissance, present music for contemplation and renewal. Both improvised and composed, in a style between jazz and classical, they explore sound and silence, shade and light, atmosphere and mood, in an uplifting musical experience.
