Our Listed Places of Worship Roof Repair Fund grant application has been succesful! We’ve been awarded £93,900 We can now start work and have already organised an on-site meeting with our architect for next week. How soon will we see the scaffolding up? When the Save St Michael’s Appeal was launched we said that we needed to raise at least £20,000 ourselves before we could start the project. We’ve had superb support and have raised just over £17,000 ourselves so feel that although we’re still a little short on our contribution to repairs we wont let that hold us back. Further donations from anyone who has not donated so far will be very welcome.

Donations to date total £13,600 A fantastic response, thank you. The slight dampener on this is that almost every penny has already been either spent or committed. If successful with our grant application, detailed below, we have to contribute a minimum £10,000 Plus we have just received an invoice for architects fees in generating our application. Together these just about empty the pot! So please continue your support as much as possible.

In his Autumn Statement the Chancellor announced a £15 million roofs scheme, “For the repair of roofs and rainwater goods on listed church buildings …… where roof and rainwater goods repairs are deemed to be urgent and necessary”. The deadline for applications was 30 January 2015, with awards to be allocated by the end of March 2015.
St Michaels’ ‘ticks every box’ for this grant. However, without the help of our architects, Columba Cook, we would never have been able to complete so complex an application within the very short time frame. But with Columba Cook’s assistance we submitted our application which was acknowledged on 29 January. Phew! Here are some links for our application which totals £90,000
All work covered by the Listed Places of Worship Roof Grant has now been completed and the building is watertight now for many years to come. However, that is far from the end of what needs doing and restoring so fund raising must continue. Here are some pictures of the work as it is being carried out.
